Agonist

A substance which initiates a physiological response when it binds to a receptor

Angina

A condition marked by severe pain in the chest to an inadequate blood supply to the heart

Antagonist

A substance which interferes with or inhibits the physiological action of another when it binds to a receptor

Contraindication

A condition or circumstance in which a particular drug should not be used

Dose titration

The process of adjusting the dose of a medication for maximum benefit without side effects

Efficacy

The ability of a drug to produce a response

Hypersensitivity

An extreme allergic reaction or physical sensitivity to a particular substance

Myocardial infarction

A heart attack

Neuropsychiatric symptoms

Symptoms relating to mental or emotional disturbance due to disordered brain function

Pharmacological

Relating to the branch of medicine concerned with the uses, effects, and modes of action of drugs

Positive reinforcement

The process of encouraging or establishing a pattern of behaviour by offering reward when the behaviour is exhibited

Regimen

A prescribed course of medical treatment

Tinnitus

Ringing or buzzing in the ears

Withdrawal symptoms

The physical reactions that accompany the process of ceasing to take an addictive drug
