Nicotine gum works by releasing nicotine when chewed. This nicotine replaces the nicotine obtained from smoking. This helps relieve and prevent withdrawal symptoms, while also reducing cravings when the smoker is trying to quit.

Two of the most popular brands of nicotine gum are Nicorette® and Niquitin®. Both products are quite similar, so we will use Nicorette® as an example.
