The heart is a hollow muscular organ that pumps blood around the body. It has four chambers – the upper chambers are the atria and the lower chambers are the ventricles. The heart contains two pumps connected in series – the left and right sides. The right side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs and the left pumps oxygenated blood around the body.
