First Speaker

Associate Professor Daniel Tan
Director, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching
Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore

Associate Professor Daniel Tan was awarded The Public Administration Medal (Silver) at the Singapore National Day Awards (2007) and 2012 Global e-Learning Award for Excellence in eLearning for his contributions in the education field. Through his role as the current Director at the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), he led the development and implementation of an eLearning campus eco-system which has helped the University and CELT to win various teaching and learning excellence recognitions.

Keynote Speech: University 2.0: Reality, Reflection, Response

Recent development in technologies - the Internet, Web 2.0 and MOOCs - have challenged the traditional roles of higher education. Coupled with the changed profile of Gen Y students and the way they learn differently in the digital world challenges the traditional paradigm of teaching and learning in higher education. The presentation will examine some of these issues and suggest responses to manage these challenges.

Pradeep Nair
Deputy Vice Chancellor
Taylor’s University

Pradeep Nair is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Taylor's University in Malaysia and has oversight over 12 schools and three centres. He lectures regularly in General Management, Strategic Management and Human Resources management at post graduate levels. His most significant achievement has been to turn Taylor's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts into Asia's largest school of its kind with over 3300 students from over 80 countries. In 2007, Pradeep was named as one of the 100 most influential personalities in the hospitality industry in Malaysia. In the same year, under Pradeep's leadership. the school went on to win the Hospitality Asia Platinum Award, as Hospitality Institution of the Year. In 2008, the school won the PATA Gold Award for Education and Training. Pradeep is a member of the Industry Advisory Board of University Malaysia, Terengganu. In 2009, he was appointed by the Minister of Human Resources as a member of the Human Resources Development Council Advisory Board. In 2010 he was appointed by the Minister of Higher Education as a Curriculum Board member for Polytechnics in Malaysia. In 2012, Pradeep has been conferred the “Education Leadership Award” by the World Education Congress, in recognition for his outstanding leadership and contributions in the field of higher education.
